MGB Academy Is the Way In: Free Role-Based Courses That Lead to NPCA Registration

Missouri Green Banc’s MGB Academy offers free, self-paced online courses that teach property owners, contractors, capital providers, lenders, and other commercial building professionals how the National PACE Capital Access (NPCA) platform works and where each participant’s role begins and ends. Participants can enroll now, online, at their own pace. Each role-specific course leads to the next step: NPCA registration. The purpose is practical. Fluency for everyone at the table, so projects can move from building need to funded transaction.

Projects rarely stall because the work cannot be done. They stall because the parties do not share a process. An owner may have a project but not know which capital providers or contractors fit. A contractor may have capacity but no direct path to funded work. A lender may have capital but lack a standardized way to identify suitable projects.

MGB Academy addresses that gap by guiding key market participants to the Missouri Green Banc's NPCA platform.

NPCA is the meeting space

NPCA introduces qualified Missouri property owners to qualified capital providers and contractors based on the criteria each party sets for the other.

NPCA is a financing access platform that connects commercial property owners, contractors, lenders, capital providers, and public PACE authorities through a standardized exchange for clean energy financing. Rather than serving as a lender, NPCA functions as connective infrastructure that expands access to capital while simplifying the path from project opportunity to funded transaction.

The NPCA platform gives each participant a separate role. Property owners describe their building and project. Capital providers register the deals they want to fund. Contractors register their capabilities. NPCA surfaces potential matches on separate tracks, and owners choose independently.

An owner with a project, a contractor with a crew, a lender with capital, and a municipality with a jurisdiction may have four different missions. NPCA gives them one place to begin.

What the Academy provides

Every MGB Academy course is:

  • Free
  • Self-paced
  • Role-specific
  • Focused on how NPCA works
  • Clear about each participant’s responsibilities and limits
  • Designed to lead participants toward NPCA registration

There is no fee to register on NPCA, no obligation, no gatekeeper, and no middleman taking a cut. Participants decide whether to register, what information to provide, and which introductions to pursue.

The MGB Academy one-pager provides a concise overview of the workforce-development initiative and its role in Missouri’s commercial building market.

One platform. Different missions.

  • Property Owners: Describe a project once and let NPCA surface fitting capital and contractors. Owners choose independently, on their own terms.
  • Capital Providers: Register deal size, property type, structure, geography, and preferred terms. NPCA can surface the firm to owners whose projects match its criteria.
  • Contractors: Register trades, project types, service areas, and capabilities. NPCA can surface the firm to Missouri owners with funded projects ready to move.
  • Banks & Credit Unions: Register as a capital provider or refer owners to fee-free financing structured to sit alongside existing commercial relationships.
  • Architects / Engineers: Learn how to help clients finance the efficiency measures and building systems specified in project plans.
  • Developers: Connect projects with right-fitting capital and contractors while considering long-term fixed financing for the capital stack.
  • Energy Auditors: Turn recommendations into fundable projects so an audit becomes an action plan rather than a filed document.
  • Equipment Providers / Jobbers: Help owners address project scope and financing instead of losing needed equipment to a price objection.
  • Loan Brokers: Add a financing path for commercial projects that do not fit conventional lending requirements.
  • Municipal Governments: Connect local property owners with capital and contractors without cost or risk to the community.
  • Nonprofit Organizations: Consider long-term assessment financing for building upgrades instead of using upfront capital needed for mission work.
  • Property & Facility Managers: Turn deferred capital plans into scheduled work across the portfolios they manage.
  • Energy Services Companies: Use the companion module to understand guaranteed savings and measurement and verification alongside Missouri’s economic benefit standard. ESCOs register on the contractor track; no separate credential is required.
  • Organized Labor: Recognize failing rooftop units, worn-out boilers, and outdated lighting; ask basic screening questions; and connect owners to NPCA. Labor participants do not lend, broker, or advise.

The courses explain how information is used, how fit is determined, and where each participant’s responsibility ends. That clarity supports better conversations before a project reaches formal financing or construction.

Missouri infrastructure behind the Academy

Missouri Clean Energy District is Missouri’s statewide statutory PACE authority, serving communities across the state since 2011. Together with its nonprofit affiliate, Missouri Green Banc, the organizations have helped facilitate more than $2 billion in clean energy financing commitments and transactions through public-private partnerships, in more than 300 member communities.

The Academy and NPCA operate on that same statewide infrastructure. For participants exploring CPACE financing in Missouri or the Missouri PACE program, the courses provide an entry point into the process without requiring prior platform experience.

The Academy is not a substitute for independent professional, legal, financial, engineering, or construction advice. It is a shared orientation to the roles, information, and connections that help commercial building projects advance.

Start with the role

The process is direct:

  1. Pick the role that matches your work.
  2. Take the free MGB Academy course at your own pace.
  3. Register on NPCA.
  4. Describe your project, capabilities, or financing criteria.
  5. Review fitting connections and make independent decisions.

The building pays for the upgrades, but the right people still need a clear way to meet.

Visit MGB Academy, complete the course for your role, and register on NPCA when you are ready.
